Thai Boat

Open 11am - 9pm. Closed Wednesday

Thai Boat is aptly named: Thai cuisine served in a boat-shaped building. The fare at Thai Boat is flavorful, and the kindness and attention shown to customers is delightful. The restaurant is situated amidst the bustle of a working pier, making the atmosphere quite casual. Most customers order to go, since seating is limited to two tables inside and two tables outside.

Pahd Thai is one of my favorite foods, and the Pahd Thai served at Thai Boat is very good. The sauce is mouthwateringly sweet and spicy (we order medium hot), the noodles are tender (not chewy or mushy), the meat portions are generous, the bean sprouts and carrots are crisp, and the cilantro is fresh. We've ordered this dish with chicken, beef, pork and tofu. My favorite would probably be the chicken. Another dish we've enjoyed is the Sweet Basil. This dish is served with steamed rice and consists of green beans, bamboo shoots, carrots, basil leaves and meat all in a salty-but-slightly-sweet spicy brown sauce.

The menu at Thai Boat offers just enough variety to keep us coming back for more. Appetizers include fried spring rolls and salad. Rice dishes such as Param Chicken, Sweet and Sour, and Pad Prik-Khing are available as well as a variety of noodle dishes like Pahd See-U and Rahd Nah. The menu also offers soups and curries, including a special pineapple curry. Most dishes have the option of chicken, beef, pork, tofu, veggie, fish, shrimp, or squid. Menu items are labled regular or spicy, but you may designate your level of heat by choosing mild, medium hot, or very hot. And if your food is just a little too spicy for your taste, may I recommend ordering a Thai Ice Coffee or Thai Ice Tea to cool you off. No other dessert is needed! (or available for that matter.)

Menu prices at Thai Boat range from $4.95 to $9.95, with most items being $6.50 to $7.50.

Thai Boat is located on the north end of Embarcadero, next to Virg's Landing.
